So I went home to do some volunteer work for my community by painting two sides of a 5ft. x 8ft. sign. As it must be, it was stored away in an old warehouse so I had to travel 15 minutes out of town to get there. After about 5 hours of painting, the gentleman came to say that he really liked it and he was very happy that I did this for him. There was a quick, "No prob," and then we headed away. Backing up, being parked in the middle of a grass-overgrown, dirt parking lot, there was a sudden "SMASH!"...I wasn't backing up anymore. I got out of my new - new to me - PT Cruiser and slowly peeked my head around the butt of my car, as if that would make the damage magically go away. Low and behold, hidden by the overgrowth, stood a 1950's, stainless steel, 50ft cemented fire hydrant...and it decided to "cookie cut" by bumper...O <--yea, like that...so, casually, I did the little look around glance to see who might be laughing their asses off at the sight of my misfortune, but there was no one in sight. At least that was not so bad. Still, I was sad.../cry.

So now I have $25 lost in paint, a $300 bumper repair (which I will NOT be paying!), and along with my car, my pride is severely damaged.

Thus ends the tale of voluntary misfortune.
